Today Noah tried his first vegetable! We bought some organic carrots and tried our hand at making baby food. It was a piece of cake and they tasted amazing without any seasoning! Noah loved them.

It's Time for Solids!
We thought we'd wait until Noah hit his 6 month birthday before we gave him solids, but the doctor said he was more than ready. Not only was he carefully watching everything we ate but he was opening his mouth in anticipation too. But, the biggest change was his sudden need to eat every hour and a half during the day and every three hours during the night. For the first time I felt the pain of other parents that complained of sleep deprivation. It was no fun! So, today we introduced some rice cereal to Noah...and he loved it!
The plan is to give him one tablespoon of rice cereal in the morning for one week. Then we'll add another serving in the evening. Once he's fine with that we'll introduce a vegetable. We can add something new every three days. The doctor suggested that we start with several veggies before introducing fruit. Because fruit is so sweet many babies may not be so inclined to eat veggies after trying the sweet stuff. That makes sense to me!

Noah's First Wedding!
Mike and Jenny got married today, coincidentally (and conveniently) just down the street from our house. I was excited about dressing him up in his cute little Kenneth Cole blazer, but it was uncharacteristically hot and the wedding was outside so we went with just the polo shirt. :(
During the ceremony I was nervous that he would cry or make a lot of noise, but he was a perfect gentlemen and remained very quiet. The heat seemed to make him lethargic and he began to dose, but at the end of the ceremony everyone began to clap and make noise which startled him. Actually, it scared him to death and he erupted into a load scream. Thankfully you couldn't hear him over everyone else. :) He napped for a long time during the reception and then was happily passed around. He's such a social butterfly.

More Gymboree
Today was our second level I Gymboree class. I noticed immediately that he didn't freak out when the other babies got fussy which is great.
The neon scarf he loved last week now makes him blink spastically. It's almost like he's afraid it will touch his little eyeballs. He still really, really, really loves that dumb clown. It's by far his favorite. He just squeals with delight when he sees Gymbo. He also seems to be a fan of the whiffle balls.

Floor Time is Fun
We went to our first "Mommy and Me" fitness class at Gymboree. It was a 45 minute yoga inspired class; more for Mommy than baby. Noah seemed to really like it, especially when I did the cat pose above him. He just laughed and screamed. Maybe he thought it was cool that mommy was rolling around on the floor too.
When we got home he spent a fair amount of time trying to crawl. It was a pretty entertaining sight. He kept lifting himself off the ground with his arms and then moving one leg forward as he screamed in excitement. At one point he got his little butt high in the air.

Gymboree
Today I decided to check out a Level I Gymboree class. Level I is for babies 0 - 6 months. In the class we sat in a circle with our babies and subjected them to silly songs and lots of tactile stimulation.
Initially Noah seemed more interested in the other babies and spent a fair amount of time fussing and pouting--especially if one of them started to cry. Eventually he did calm down enough to enjoy playing peek a boo with a sheer neon scarf. He also liked the bubbles (who doesn't like bubbles?!), the parachute (lifted high and low over him), and the Gymboree mascot--a clown named Gymbo. Actually, much to my dismay, he LOVED Gymbo. Truth be told, I'm not a big fan of clowns.
I thought it was a little expensive, but I decided to join anyway. Overall, he had a lot of fun and I think the socialization is good for him.
