Glucose Screening Test Results

Argh. Just got off the phone with the Doctor's office. Apparently, my glucose is high and my hemoglobin is low so I have to do the following:
  1. I need to go in to the lab right away for 3 straight hours where I will be tested hourly. I'll need to fast 8 hours beforehand so they recommend I go early in the morning. Thankfully they open at 7:30 a.m, but still I'll be STARVING by the time it's over and I can get to food!

Even though diabetes runs in my family I'm hopeful it's just a fluke and the follow up test will be fine. I saw a stat on BabyCenter.com that said as much as 50% of women that go for the more indepth test are fine. I've only gained 13 pounds so far, I'm careful about what I eat and my blood pressure is normal so it'll be very lame if I do end up with gestational diabetes. Damn genes!

  2. I have to start taking an over the counter Iron supplement called Slow Fe. Aside from fish we eat a mostly vegetarian diet, but fish and chicken has seemed kind of gross to me since the pregnancy. I know there's a lot of iron-rich vegetarian options (like Spinach) so I guess I'll need to be more mindful of my iron intake now.
